Saint Paul’s Lutheran School Hosts 2nd Annual Tiger Invitational & 2013 Lutheran Conference Basketball Tournament: Both a Success!

What a busy January Saint Paul’s had hosting our 2nd annual Tiger Invitational as well as the 2013 Lutheran Conference Basketball Tournament! Between both tournaments, we had 11 schools and 13 teams visit our school to compete. What a wonderful way to show off our facilities!

An enormous thank you is in order to the individuals who worked to keep our school sparkling clean and ready for our big events. Linda Craig, Ted Fedder, Todd Moore, Harold Niebruegge, and Greg Reynolds have worked tirelessly early morning hours, throughout the school day, and late into the evening to ensure our school building and gym are prepared to handle our events.

Another immense thank you is due to every single family with children participating in athletics who willingly volunteered to give up so much of their weekends handling these events. Thank you for helping with admissions, concessions, the score table, selling T-shirts, and cleaning up Saturday evening. A special thank you to Rhonda Lange for heading up the concession stand so that the 7th/8th grade class could raise funds for their class trip. She and the 7th/8th grade parents put together a fabulous concession stand!

Thanks to our coaches, Scott Martens and Greg Reynolds, for working with our young boys’ team and giving them the opportunity to experience a tournament. And thank you to Mr. Cluck for organizing the brackets, ordering T-shirts, and helping prepare for the entire tournament. Many thanks also to Mr. Cluck, Dave Meseke, and Ryan Kaffer for coaching our girls’ team and helping them come so far from where they started a year ago. It’s been an exciting season to watch!

And lastly, thank you to the fans who packed the stands to cheer on our teams! It was great to see so many new faces, as well as our veteran fans, cheering on our teams.

Our Tiger Invitational costs about $1,500 to run and we made a profit of $669. The money will be used to purchase new equipment for our basketball program. The 7th/8th grade class raised $1,270 working concessions at both tournaments and would like to thank everyone for supporting them as they work towards funding their class trip.

Thank you all for your hard work! It was a great success and we look forward to improving it next year. We hope to see a lot of you tonight for our 8th Grade Recognition and Parent vs. Tigers Basketball Game to close out the basketball season.

In Christ,
Mrs. McLaughlin

Lady Tigers Head to Consolation Bracket for the First Time in School History

Last night, our Lady Tigers had an AWESOME win over their biggest rival this season- the Zion Litchfield Lady Flyers! This means that for the FIRST time in Saint Paul’s School history, our girls’ team will compete for the consolation (4th place) trophy. This is quite an accomplishment for our small school which has had only two girls’ teams in the last decade and has never made it this far in the Conference Tournament. Please come out and support our Lady Tigers tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 2, at 1:00 p.m. at Metro East Lutheran High School (6305 Center Grove Road, Edwardsville, IL 62025- right next to Edwardsville High School) as they take on the Lady Braves of Holy Cross Collinsville for their last game of the 2013 Lutheran Conference Basketball Tournament. It will be an exciting opportunity for our girls and we are very proud of them for making it this far! LET’S FILL THE STANDS WITH RED!
